Audio Quality Ease of Use Graphic Design Value for Price
I have done this in order to give myself to use the plugins in actual projects and not just be blown away by new toys.
As with all Waves products - never, ever buy them at full price. Wait for sales. They are always on sale.
However, when it is on sale, then it is absolutely terrific value for money.
There are many plugins here which have become important workhorses for my production and I anticipate I will continue relying on them. They sound good, they get the job done and they are straight forward to use.
Examples of workhorse plugins: H-comp, H-delay, Q10, C4, C1, TrueVerb.
There are some other plugins which are more unusual but very good for utility, such as Doppler, UltraPitch and others.
Also, I must say I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the guitar sims in GTR. They sound a bit weird isolated, but they can often be fit into a mix or song context. Remember, these can be used creatively, there's nothing stopping you useing the GTR plugins to process vocals or synths.
Some of the plugins are dated. While I hate to be one to whine about graphics, the fact is on a 24" monitor, I strain to see the information and controls. I have spoken to engineering professionals who swear by the Renaissance plugins, however, due to their dated interface, I was unable to get into them. I don't like squinting as I'm working, especially in an age where companies like Melda have scaling as standard.
Overall, this is a decent package and I feel positively towards the product. Even if I only end up using 60% of the plugins, when the product is on sale, that is still terrific value for money.
I recommend this for musicians who are starting to feel like they need a little bit more than free suites and stock plugins. However, Waves plugins are not vital and they should no longer be seen as the 'industry standard'. (Posted on 3/22/2018)
